Review THe Brotherhood of Death (PAL):Roy, Ned and Junior are three young black men brought up in a small repressive town in the deep south. Kinkaid county is under the brutal control of the Klu Klax Klan. They terrorize the black citizens by rape and murder. THe three friends form the sect 'Brotherhood of Death' and set out to avenge their people. Review The Trigger Effect [VHS Video]:How tenuous is man's hold on civilization when survival becomes an issue? When the lights go out and stay out for several days, suburbanites Matthew and Annie learn the hard way that man is "by nature" a predatory creature. Matthew's long-time friend, Joe, happens by on the second day and a rivalry between the two friends simmers as Annie cares for her sick baby. When rumors of looting spread through the neighborhood, the two men buy a rifle for protection but Annie throws it in the pool. Later, that same night, Joe hears a prowler downstairs and awakens Matthew. They chase the stranger from the house and out into the street where a neighbor shoots him to death. No longer safe in their own home, they decide to drive to Annie's parents some 500 miles away. Before they reach their destination, more trouble comes their way when they stop to siphon gas from an abandoned car and discover the driver in the back seat. Is this what is meant by "man's inhumanity to man?".

Review Albino Alligator [1997] / Uca Catalogue:Actor Kevin Spacey made his directorial debut with Albino Alligator, an uneven crime thriller that has the claustrophobic feel of a play. Matt Dillon, Gary Sinise and William Fichtner play a trio of robbers who have just pulled a job gone wrong. On the run from the cops, they hide out in a basement bar, where they try to figure out their next move. There's a certain amount of urgency, however, because Sinise, the brains of the outfit, is badly wounded-which means that Fichtner, the group psycho, is allowed to run wild, terrorising the barflies unlucky enough to be their hostages. As the cops swarm outside the bar-thinking these three are major criminals rather than small potatoes-tension mounts, mostly through misunderstanding. But it's all a lot of talk, not nearly enough of it interesting, that pushes the movie slowly to its inevitable conclusion. -Marshall Fine, Amazon. com.
