Review Fiona Phillips - The Bodyshape Solution / Universal Pictures UK:A fitness regime tailored to specific body types is the basis of the Fiona Phillips' Body Shape Solution. With a band of stylish, professional women in black lycra uniforms to inspire, and the promise of redistributing weight to your figure's best advantage, this must be fitness for the Bridget Jones market. According to Sarah McClurey who devised the programme, walking swimming and low resistance training suit pear shape figures; step classes, aerobics and weight training suit apple shape figures and a balance of aerobics and weight training suit hour-glass figures. That's probably the most useful bit of information, and the part you're most likely to follow. The 50-minute programme is divided into four segments: warm-up, aerobics, routine, warm-down. But only one segment is tailored to each specific figure (the routine). Fast-forwarding to your bit isn't a quick option, as McClurey states the entire 50-minute session has to be done three times a week for results. The Bridget Jones set will likely prefer to spend that amount of time in a sociable gym, rather than being stuck with Phillips and McClurey-or, even more likely, they'll give up on the barrage of exercise-speak and settle down with a v. good bottle of Chardonnay. -Lorna V.

Review Gaiam Yoga - Yoga Basics / Universal Pictures UK:Not only does Yoga Basics deliver what its title promises-the basic elements of yoga-it also goes back to basics before yoga became another tool for attaining a perfect body. From an exotic palm tree and beach location, teacher Patricia Walden sets the tone by talking about the spirituality of yoga. Her first instruction is to contemplate one's daily life. Yoga, Walden explains, is a vehicle inwards. Yoga Basics comprises a meditative opening to centre the mind, a core session which goes through basic standing and seated poses, and finally a deep relaxation. Its slow, gentle pace throughout makes this an ideal tool to relieve an anxious, agitated mind, simultaneously providing sound instruction in yoga postures. It's also perfect for those who fear that a total lack of flexibility makes it impossible to practise yoga. The use of props such as cushions throughout illustrates the point that you don't need a bendy body to benefit from this. Initially Walden's American voice comes across as monotonous, and Brits might find her evangelical tone off-putting. However, once absorbed in the yoga, the voice becomes a calming backdrop, rather than an intrusion. [+]-Lorna V.
