Review Billy Blanks' Tae-Bo 1: The Future of Fitness / Ilc Prime:

"Ah, we're rockin' now, baby!" World Martial Arts champion and occasional action movie star Billy Blanks has become (almost) a household name with his own brand of fitness video, Tae-Bo. It's a simple yet inspired idea: take martial arts and boxing moves (punching, kicking) and turn them into an aerobic dance-style workout that viewers can do in their own living room (providing you move furniture and any fragile ornaments out of range first). No equipment, no dieting, no frills required: just enough space for some shadow-boxing and kicking. The testimony of Tae-Bo converts confirm that it's a high-energy, calorie-burning routine guaranteed to work those muscles and sweat away the flab. On this video our genial, energetic host leads an intensive 30-minute live workout in which you, the viewer, will definitely need all the encouragement he so generously hands out to stay the course-at least for the first time. He launches very quickly into the full workout, so it's a good idea to warm yourself up before starting the tape. Or you can forward to the second half, an instructional session in which Billy introduces all the basic moves of Tae-Bo. This is vitally important as you won't be able to follow the workout routine without some initial practice. Here he is assisted by four women who, disconcertingly for the average couch potato, look like they need no additional toning whatsoever and seem to be made of rubber, so flexible are they when undertaking the stretching and bending exercises. Once you've completed the introduction, rewind to the workout. [+]
Tae-Bo really is fun: as Billy's enthusiasm catches hold and you feel those muscles start to burn you'll understand why it's become the most successful fitness series on video. "Good job, good workout". -Mark Walker.

Review Barbara Currie's Fun Yoga For Kids / 2 Entertain Video:

One of the unexpected trends in the yoga mania that is sweeping the country is the demand-and popularity-of yoga for kids. Established expert and popular yoga instructor Barbara Currie's Fun Yoga for Kids isn't just capitalising on the interest, but instead offers a genuine, sound introduction aimed at children-and that includes the kid in everyone. While the set, graphics, animation and format are all kid-friendly, the key to this programme's success is that Currie resists turning it into a pantomime. With precise and concise instructions she takes the kids straight into saluting Sammy the Sun, a core yoga sequence. The difference between this and adult yoga is that the holds in positions are not as long. With Colin the Cobra's Forest of Secrets as the setting, the 50-minute session flies through about a posture every two minutes. The postures are renamed after animals such as Willy the Warrior Warthog (warrior position), Tallulah the Toucan (triangle position), Billy the Bear and Freddie the Flamingo (balancing positions), Geri the Giraffe (twist). By featuring real kids rather than perfect models or trained actors, the responses are endearingly imperfect, spontaneous, and genuine. All in all it's a fantastic introduction for parents and kids, with no chance of anyone getting bored. On the DVD: Fun Yoga for Kids on disc offers each posture itemised scene by scene making it simple to choose favourites, repeat, or adapt for shorter sessions. [+]

RRP: £13.99

Review The Hotpants Workout / Vision Video Ltd.:

For the first few minutes of The Hotpants Workout you might think you've tuned into Top of the Pops, as female dancers in skimpy, shimmery-yep you guessed it-hotpants dance around. Choreographer to the stars Dan Karaty maintains that Kylie and Britney have fantastic bodies thanks to dance. But the opening case study of a real dancer who had to get her figure back after a period of inactivity due to illness is unnecessary. It's only once the charming Karaty goes into the workout that there is no doubt he knows how to put across his point: dance is indeed a fun way to get a good body. The session is divided into six sections which target legs, thighs, burning fat, waist, abs and glutes. "Bounce" features a sexy bounce move, "Slide" is based on a sexy slide from leg to leg, "Rush" is a fast fun section, and by the time you reach the slower "Groove" section you might kid yourself that you're just steps away from looking like Karaty's confident back-up dancers. "Two Step" is the hardest of the six sections in terms of coordination, but it's not impossible. The only disappointing section is the final cooldown. It's not as fun as the rest, and the addition of abs and glutes might complete the fitness aspect but doesn't gel with the rest of the up-beat funky workout. Not for serious fitness fanatics but undeniably fun-and it'll do wonders for your dance-floor cred. [+]
