Review The Story of Robin Hood:A minor classic from Disney, this 1973 all-animal, all-animated musical version of the familiar story of Robin Hood is more charming than one might expect. Perhaps it's the warm, chummy take on key relationships within the legend-the way Robin Hood (Brian Bedford) gets twitterpated whenever the subject of Maid Marian (Monica Evans) comes up or the way best pal Little John (Phil Harris voicing a variation on his own Baloo from The Jungle Book) admonishes the Sherwood Forest hero, "Aw, Rob, why dontcha just marry the girl?" (Then, of course, there's the canny "casting" of the romantic leads as foxes: Robin the sly one and Marian the, well, foxy one. ) The rest of the vocal cast is lively and eclectic: Peter Ustinov, Andy Devine, Terry Thomas, George Lindsey. Roger Miller provides the songs and voice for the minstrel character Allan-A-Dale. The film is ably directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, whose decades of work in Disney's animation division helped create the studio's rich legacy. -Tom Keogh, Amazon. com.

Review Teletubbies - Dance With The Teletubbies / 2 Entertain Video:The British countryside has seen few raves like this one-our favourite Teletubbies are shown dancing through Teletubby Land with a few of their friends and, of course, their many rabbits. The "Stepping and Standing Dance" leads things off, followed by the "Walking Dance", "Running Away Dance", "Splashing Dance", and so forth (thankfully, we're spared from "Riverdance"). Of course, all this dancing-and even some clips of real children performing a few jigs-can wear a little thin on the patience of any child or parent. While younger children may want to perform some of the moves themselves (the "Tip Toe Dance" looks semi-appealing), everyone else risks becoming bored. The Teletubbies work best when, just like the typical preschooler, they all act differently, performing unique tasks (check out the effective Here Come the Teletubbies). On this video, they're all line dancing. There is some genuine weirdness for more mature Tubby aficionados: a vacuum cleaner starts dancing and a computer-animated bear does a convincing Grateful Dead-inspired number. Review The Simpsons - The Simpson's Film Festival [2001] / 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment:Any four episodes of The Simpsons chosen at random would make perfectly acceptable entertainment, but The Simpsons' Film Festival is a particularly happy selection. One of the show's many delights has always been its unending stream of movie parodies, and here we have four episodes devoted to just that. In "Beyond Blunderdome", Mel Gibson (playing himself) sends up his tough-guy persona when he hires Homer to produce his latest movie. Then in "A Star is Burns" Springfield hosts its own film festival (with acerbic guest critic Jay Sherman in attendance). The competition boils down to Barney's haunting cinema verité short about the horrors of alcohol or Mr Burns' grandiose vanity project (though Homer prefers Hans Moleman being hit by a football). "22 Short Films About Springfield" is a series of parodies within a parody featuring Springfield's secondary characters, including Milhouse's dad and Chief Wiggum in a glorious Pulp Fiction sequence. Finally, the show's own internal parody cartoon duo hit the big screen in "The Itchy and Scratchy Movie", while Bart and Homer lock horns about going to see it. They sell Soylent Green in the future cinema foyer; and Homer loves it, of course. On the DVD: just four episodes is hardly stunning value for money, but it's perhaps quality not quantity that counts here. Annoyingly there is no "Play All" facility, a serious let down in all the Simpsons DVD releases (Futurama had the same problem, too). [+]The only extra feature of any note is a three-minute montage of Troy McClure's finest moments. Sound is unexceptional Dolby Stereo and the picture is standard 4:3 ratio. -Mark Walker.

Review Tarzan And Jane / Walt Disney Home Video:As Tarzan and Jane's first anniversary of wedded jungle bliss approaches, Jane ponders what gift would be appropriate-necessitating three flashbacks from the Disney television series explaining why various celebrations are out of the question. First Jane remembers when her old British school chums came to rescue her from the bush and whisk her back to civilization. Then Terk and Tantor help her recall the time diamond miners hired Tarzan only to double-cross him. The final remembrance features Jane's old neighbour Robert who flies to Africa to recover a music box he gave her-and to betray England. Michael T. Weiss and Olivia D'Abo do the honours as the voices of Tarzan and Jane and Mandy Moore and Phil Collins provide the vocals for two new songs. Review Tweenies - Doodles' New Friend [1999] / 2 Entertain Video:The latest member of the Tweenies bounds onto the screen in Doodles' New Friend. Izzles, the boisterous puppy, makes her debut appearance in this fab-a-rooney video for pre-schoolers. Alongside the familiar activities, songs and story-telling, Izzles brings a fresh element to the group. Each character reacts to the new arrival in a different way, from Jake, who's scared by the rumbustious pup, to Doodles who is seriously put out by the arrival of another dog in the house. In the end though it's Doodles himself, the Jimmy Durante of the canine world, who decides that it's time for a dog-to-dog talk and takes the young newcomer in hand. Doodles' New Friend is another entertaining and educational video from the BBC and cannot fail to appeal to the ever-growing army of Tweenies fans. -Helen Baker Running time: 68 minutes approximately.

Review Teletubbies - Ready Steady Go! [1997] / 2 Entertain Video:Taking full advantage of the magical sounds and soundtrack of the Teletubbies, Ready, Steady. Go! collects together lots of games of energetic fun, as the Tubbies dance and move and sing "Heads, shoulders, knees and toes" in a variety of places, and in different ways; Laa-Laa and Po are sleeping until they are woken up by a radio transmitter singing the song; they are all sitting to eat breakfast, when the song comes on and they all jump up to join in, while the Noo-noo looks on bemused. All the movement, follow-my-leader games, songs of body parts and the films of real-life children playing jumping games will particularly interest 14-month-olds to older toddlers, as they develop an awareness and delight in their own ability to move. The Teletubbies' colourful visuals, as well as intriguing sounds, such as the "parp" horn that sounds when a Tubby sits on its bottom, lots of real bunnies and the giggles of the Sun Baby that so delights babies, will make this video a hit with children aged between six months and about three years. -Alison Jardine.
