Review Tweenies - Songs And Surprises [1999] / 2 Entertain Video:Bella, Fizz, Milo and Jake bounce back onto the screen in Tweenies Songs & Surprises, combining the theme of surprise with the high-energy mix of music, role-play and stories that will be familiar to those who know and love the programmes on the BBC. In keeping with the "surprise" motif, there are plenty of the sorts of simple practical jokes that young children love, from whoopee cushions to jack-in-the-boxes, and in a quieter moment Max reads a story about a surprise birthday party, Happy Birthday Amelia. There are also numerous ideas for dressing-up and creative play and ample opportunity for audience participation: at one point the Tweenies grab their Teddy bears and act out "Teddy Bears' Picnic", at another they dress-up as pirates-even Doodles dons an eye patch-and follow a treasure map that Judy has made. Review Teletubbies - What's That? [1997] / 2 Entertain Video:Back again with their unfadingly popular show, the Teletubbies offer something slightly different in What's That?. A combination of the new, innovative "Teletubbies Everywhere" format and the more traditional Home Hill setting, there's something here for every Tubby fan. "Teletubbies Everywhere" are 10-minute shows, featuring Teletubbies shows from around the globe (in this instance, Finland, followed by Chile). They include real-life film clips, in which children speak their native tongue, un-dubbed. Though it may seem improbable at best, it was during this section only that the two-and-a-half-year-old reviewer of this video was truly enthralled. Following the two "Everywhere" clips is a Teletubbies 30-minute show back at Home Hill, containing the usual fun, frolics and "eh ohs" that toddlers love. This video, at 54-minutes long, is a novel variation on an old theme, and will probably keep the fans interested for a good while longer. -Lucie Naylor.

Review Teletubbies - Busy Day / 2 Entertain Video:In Teletubbies, Busy Day Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po giggle and romp their way through a day filled with Tubby toast, laughter and play. This video has the usual Tubby mix of music, repetition and movement, designed to stimulate children's imaginations, promote speech and increase confidence. Our young reviewers needed little encouragement to join in with the action on screen and when the voice trumpet called out parts of the body for the Tubbies to wash, they had plenty of time to think of the answer, shout it at the screen and perform the actions. All the familiar features of the series are here: reliable Noo-noo who cleans up when Po encounters difficulty with the Tubby custard machine, the gurgling sun and lots and lots of rabbits; and when the magic windmill turns, real children are shown having a busy day too, cleaning their teeth, going for a walk and getting ready for bed. Teletubbies, Busy Day is another delightful glimpse of life in Teletubby land that toddlers will want to see again and again and again. -Helen Baker Running time: 71 minutes approximately.

Review Tweenies - Song Time! [1999] / 2 Entertain Video:The Tweenies are back for some more all-singing, all-dancing fun. This lively nursery is attended by four, multi-coloured children, with oversize shoes and large, happy faces-Bella, Milo, Fizz and Jake-and a large, fluffy red dog. Aimed at pre-teen children, from about age three, The Tweenies is popular BBC TV show that encourages activity and participation in the viewer. After the lively "Come and Have Fun with the Tweenies" introductory song, each episode starts with the Tweeny Clock, which has five options, one of which is "Songtime". This collection for video, Songtime, is a non-stop series of upbeat songs, both familiar and new, and the Tweeny children have great fun dressing-up as the characters and acting out the storylines. Favourite and familiar songs such as "10 Fat Sausages Sizzling in a Pan", "If You're happy and You Know it", "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" and "The Grand Old Duke of York" are interspersed with new songs, such as "Feel the Music" and "Rainy Day", all of them with actions to copy, so by time gentler songs such as "I'd Like To Be A Bubble" comes on, you will all be glad of the rest! -Alison Jardine.
