Review Teletubbies - Dance With The Teletubbies / 2 Entertain Video:The British countryside has seen few raves like this one-our favourite Teletubbies are shown dancing through Teletubby Land with a few of their friends and, of course, their many rabbits. The "Stepping and Standing Dance" leads things off, followed by the "Walking Dance", "Running Away Dance", "Splashing Dance", and so forth (thankfully, we're spared from "Riverdance"). Of course, all this dancing-and even some clips of real children performing a few jigs-can wear a little thin on the patience of any child or parent. While younger children may want to perform some of the moves themselves (the "Tip Toe Dance" looks semi-appealing), everyone else risks becoming bored. The Teletubbies work best when, just like the typical preschooler, they all act differently, performing unique tasks (check out the effective Here Come the Teletubbies). On this video, they're all line dancing. There is some genuine weirdness for more mature Tubby aficionados: a vacuum cleaner starts dancing and a computer-animated bear does a convincing Grateful Dead-inspired number. Review Teletubbies Nursery Rhymes / 2 Entertain Video:Join Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po as they provide 65 minutes of educational entertainment for toddlers as young as one in Teletubbies Nursery Rhymes. This, the third Teletubby video, has all the hallmarks of the BBC television show including the cheerful and affectionate hosts that speak in a curious baby babble (Eh-Oh!), the real rabbits, the laughing baby-faced sun, the magical windmill that signals that it is time for a video clip (with real children) to be transmitted on the chosen tubby tummy, the expert computerised animations, the futuristic dome-home and Noo-noo, the pet vacuum cleaner. Against this unique and creative background, the universal appeal of eight nursery rhymes is added. Children will be mesmerised as the Teletubbies imitate, perform, dance and sing to rhymes including "Humpty Dumpty", "Hey Diddle Diddle", "Pat-A-Cake" and "Twinkle Twinkle". Great care is taken not to frighten little ones. Modern adapted versions of stories ("The Gingerbread Man") and rhymes ("Jack and Jill") omit scary words or actions and the spider in "Little Miss Muffet" is fluffy, bright pink and smiling. King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys feature in two of the three video clips, singing cool jazzed up versions of "The Grand Old Duke of York" and "Hickory Dickory Dock" to an enthusiastic young crowd. It is not difficult to see why pre-schoolers in over 20 countries have found a place in their hearts for this inimitable foursome. Review Barney's Sing And Dance / Hit Entertainment:For those who can't get enough of those Barney songs, here's a made-for-video show packed full of song and dance. The story line is oh-so thin as Barney and his friends sing 27 songs in only 56 minutes, so Barney is usually singing or introducing a new song. For anyone with the American series, most of the songs are Barney standards: "Mr Sun", "The Airplane Song", "Baby Bop Hop", and "I Love You". They are mixed in with all-time favourites such as "Itsy Bitsy Spider", "A Camping We Will Go" and the like. Many of Barney's original kid friends return looking much older and wiser. Review Teletubbies - Happy Christmas [1997] / 2 Entertain Video:What better time than Christmas could there be for these four likeable, er, things? After all, like the children they really are, the Teletubbies find the whole procedure to be an endless source of wonderful surprises and exciting things to do. They get presents, of course, found with the tree which, in Teletubby Land, just mysteriously appears-exactly as it does to real children, of course (unless they're unfortunate enough to be awake when an effing-and-blinding adult is attempting to manoeuvre it into place). There's also some jolly footage of real children, including a suitably happy bunch choosing and decorating a real tree, and of course it's these sections of "outside broadcasting" which balance the caperings of the four plush poppets so well. Despite the festive theme, this needn't be a Christmas-only video; the whole world is wondrous for the Teletubbies' pre-school audience, so the occasion is perfectly presented as a part of that, no more and no less. -Roger Thomas.
